It’s a simple question, but the answer might lead to action that prevents a serious situation.

Whirlpool – the household appliance manufacturer – have issued a recall. Some of their tumble dryers have a potential safety issue - concerning the build-up of lint, which may lead to overheating.

Many machines in the UK (over 1.7 million) have been checked out by Whirlpool, but others still might have the problem. The trouble is, while ‘Whirlpool’ is the manufacturer, the tumble dryers in question are sold under their Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan, and Proline brands. Appliances under the Whirlpool brand are not affected.

This means some of your household customers may have a recall product and simply not realise it, even though Whirlpool’s communications have been really clear and there’s been a national recall campaign, too.

The good news is, there’s an easy way to find out if any tumble dryer needs to be recalled. The great news is, there’s an even easier way for you to raise your customers’ awareness that they need to check.

Next time you’re in contact with customers about a household policy of any kind – simply pop the question: “Have you got a tumble dryer?”

  • Talk to your landlord and property owners customers too – ask them if they’ve contacted residents.
  • Mention the recall in your regular newsletters and review letters: be sure to use all of the impacted brand names.
  • Include the details in your social media – mention the recall, add a link to the Whirlpool website https://dryerrecall.whirlpool.co.uk for more information and to check their machine.
