We’ve been shocked and saddened by the events unfolding in Ukraine. Our heartfelt sympathies are with all of those affected and whose lives have been devasted by this crisis.

Here in the UK, we know there are many incredible people doing what they can to help those in need. We can play a small part in that work. This is how we are helping your customers.

With immediate effect, we’re flexing our insurance policies to support your incredible Ageas customers who are helping the innocent victims of this unfolding humanitarian tragedy.

Private Motor customers

If your Ageas private motor customers wish to transport goods around the UK to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine, we’ll support this. We don’t need to be notified for this change in use, in accordance with the ABI Volunteer Driving Commitments.

If your Private Motor customers are going to Europe for the same purpose, those customers’ policies will also provide third party cover for a specified period within the ‘Free Circulation without Green CardZone. However, please call is on 0345 122 3288 if they plan to leave the European Economic Area.

  • When you speak to your customers, please remind them it’s best to abide by travel advice issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, to get familiar with movement regulations, and to check policy documents for limits of coverage and policy exclusions.

Commercial Vehicle customers

We’ll also extend our fully comprehensive motor insurance in the UK to those customers who are making cross border journeys within the ‘Free Circulation without Green Cardzone in commercial vehicles for the next three months at no additional charge (until 11 June 2022).  We don’t need to be notified if their policy wouldn’t normally include this cover as standard - we’ll review the situation in three months’ time.

If your Commercial Vehicle customers are going to Europe for the same purpose, those customers’ policies will also provide third party cover within the ‘Free Circulation without Green Cardzone – but please call 0345 122 3288 if they need more cover, or plan to leave the European Economic Area.

  • When you speak to your customers, please remind them it’s best to abide by travel advice issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, to get familiar with movement regulations, and to check policy documents for limits of coverage and policy exclusions.

Home customers

Some of your Ageas home insurance customers may temporarily be welcoming refugees into their homes as guests. We want to support this generosity as much as we can. In most cases we won’t need to be notified. However, cover may change if the refugee is a paying guest or being accommodated in a second home, guest home or rental property. If this is the case, please refer these cases into us.

We’ll interpret non-paying refugees as Family members within the policy. ‘Family’ is normally defined as those permanently living with the policyholder (and isn't a lodger or paying guest) - this definition will be temporarily extended to include all refugees temporarily living with the homeowner without payment.

Please ensure that the sum insured on your customer's policy is adequate for the refugees’ contents, including any individual high value items - taking out further cover if required. Please call us on 0345 122 3288 if there’s anything your customers are unsure about.

What else are we doing?

Ageas has donated to the British Red Cross DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. We’ll also be match-funding any donations that are made to it by our employees through our payroll giving scheme.

To provide immediate support, we’ve also set up collection points at our offices in Eastleigh, Gloucester and Bournemouth for much needed items and medical supplies. These will be sent out to the Ukraine-Poland border, and they’ll be distributed to other countries taking in refugees, too.

If you’d like to use these collection points, just let us know – we can give you a list of items we’re collecting.
