The Floodmobile

One in six UK properties is at risk of flooding from the sea or rivers.* We know just how distressing it can be for people when their homes are damaged. This is why we’re taking a proactive approach to supporting brokers and customers with advice on how to protect their homes from all kinds of severe weather - flooding in particular.

A partnership that won't let you down, whatever the weather

As we showed attendees who visited the Floodmobile at The BIBA Conference 2024, we're committed to having an in-house Weather Taskforce that supports brokers and their customers for the long-term.  This is the kind of practical help that underpins our partnerships with brokers, everywhere (and if you didn't see us at BIBA, you can find out more about the Floodmobile and our connection with Flood Mary (Mary Long-Dhonau OBE) here - it's a demonstration vehicle, showcasing all kinds of flood resilience measures).

Customers really do want to know what they can do in advance and research shows that, if steps are taken to prepare for a flood, the damage to homes and possessions can be reduced by around 40%.* We're helping brokers by making this information much more-easily available.

For example:

  • Working in partnership with Flood Mary - Mary Long-Dhonau OBE - we've created a wide-ranging, comprehensive Flood Resilience toolkit. The Flood Recovery Guide and Flood Mary's videos are a great resource for coping with a flood. Everything from what to do when going back to a flooded property, to handling the insurance claim, to making a home more resilient to any potential floods in the future.
  • Ageas is the UK’s first insurer to use WeatherNet’s SurgeCast application with policyholders' data, so that we can identify customers most at risk of inbound extreme weather. We also use it to update brokers about impending weather that might impact their customers - in turn, helping them to mitigate the damage.
  • And we also offer Build Back Better. Through this scheme, homeowners get the chance to have a range of different flood resilience measures installed by insurers if flooding does damage their home - so before and after the event, you can see we have people's best interests at heart.

What's next?

We're already making plans for our next Weather Wise event, later this year. Stay in touch with your account managers to find out more, and do follow Ageas Broker and Flood Mary across our social channels for latest tips and advice.

Introducing the LEGO Flood House!

This set is now LIVE as an entry on the LEGO Ideas platform and we need your help to reach 10,000 supporters for LEGO to consider bringing this kit to shop shelves near you.

The LEGO's Flood House shows the impacts of flooding and, more importantly, the benefits of making our properties more flood resilient. And you can vote on this LEGO set now!

In this model, LEGO have designed two terraced houses to show the dangers of flooding, and the benefits of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures. Things like flood doors and deployable flood barriers.

Vote now, and if LEGO put it into production, you could be using it as a tool with your customers! We think it's a great tool (and who doesn't love a LEGO set?!).
