No Claims Discount Information

Here, we explain how our NCD works and what happens if your customers do need to make a claim. We’ve also included our CMA-compliant average NCD table.

Services - Claims.png

As long as a claim hasn’t been made, we’ll include a No Claim Discount (NCD) in your customer’s renewal premiums.

An NCD can’t be transferred to any other person. If a claim is made on your customer’s policy, then we will reduce the NCD at renewal (or when the policy is cancelled, if this cancellation is prior to the renewal date).

To help you, this first dropdown shows the simplified NCD table for our Private Car and Commercial Vehicle policies – followed by policy-specific breakdowns below.

Average NCD tables for CMA Order

To help you comply with the CMA Order we’ve produced a simplified NCD table for both Private Car and Commercial Vehicle. You can use this for your compliance statements.

Motor Guard

Your customer’s No Claim Discount won’t be affected if:

  • the only claims made are for damaged windscreen or window glass under Section B or for replacement locks under Section L of the policy; or,
  • all of our outlay is recovered from a third party or could be but for an industry agreement; or,
  • comprehensive cover is in place and your customer is making a claim for an accident that is not their fault and the driver of the vehicle that hit their car is identified and is uninsured. Section J of the Motor Guard policy booklet has more details.

All other claims will impact your No Claim Discount as follows:

No Claim Discount years prior to renewal No Claim Discount years allowed after
  1 Claim 2 Claims
0 Years 0 Years 0 Years
1 Year 0 Years 0 Years
2 Years 0 Years 0 Years
3 Years 1 Years 0 Years
4 Years + 2 Years 0 Years

Section K of the Motor Guard policy booklet has further details, but if the No Claim Discount has been protected then this is the impact for your customer:

The protection provided under section K only applies to the No Claim Discount. It doesn’t protect the premium and your customers may have to pay a higher premium or excess if any claims are made.
